A classic 1950s ranch in Nichols Hills, Oklahoma City, finds new life through a thoughtful balance of warmth, modernity, and enduring materials.
Originally built in 1954, the home was envisioned as a forever home for its owners, who wanted to preserve the character and approachable scale of the original ranch while creating a more elevated, contemporary interior. What began as a refresh of lighting, furniture, and paint evolved into a comprehensive renovation, with the team reworking the floor plan, updating the home’s infrastructure, and introducing a distinctly modern interpretation of ranch-style living.

What remains is a home that feels both sophisticated and deeply inviting. Rather than relying on dramatic scale, the design embraces lower ceilings, intimate gathering spaces, and a natural flow between rooms. Multiple seating areas encourage movement throughout the home, while spaces including the den, pool table lounge, backyard bar, and patio create a sense of connection between everyday living and entertaining.
Materiality plays a defining role throughout the interiors. In the kitchen, white oak cabinetry provides a warm foundation for layers of natural stone, including Diana Royale marble on the floor and backsplash and a striking Calacatta Viola marble island. The combination of softer, natural materials with the dramatic veining of the island creates a space that feels expressive without overwhelming the architecture.
The same balance carries into the home’s more intimate spaces. A charcoal ceiling, exposed wood beams, and a rock fireplace give the den a sense of depth and warmth, while curated artwork and personal objects make the interiors feel connected to the owners rather than overly designed.

For Alexander Marchant, it’s this kind of approach to design that makes a home memorable. The most successful interiors are not defined by a single trend, but by the relationship between architecture, materials, and the details that make a space feel personal.
Here, the original ranch architecture remains the foundation. Contemporary furnishings, natural stone, refined finishes, and hand-picked fixtures bring a fresh perspective without compromising the home’s sense of place. The result is a modern interpretation of ranch living that feels comfortable, collected, and designed to last.
