𝗗𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗴𝗻𝗲𝗿 𝗦𝗽𝗼𝘁𝗹𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁: 𝟯 𝗤𝘂𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝗰𝘆 𝗪𝗵𝗶𝘁𝘄𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗵 Growing up in Dallas, Stacy Whitworth knew early on that she was destined for a design career. While studying art and design at Texas State University, she started interning for a San Antonio-based interior designer who eventually hired her. “It was the best hands-on experience I could have ever asked for,” Whitworth says of that pivotal job. Since opening her own Austin-based firm in 2017, Whitworth has designed residential and commercial spaces, and often focuses on high-end renovation projects. “Honestly though, I do a lot of everything,” she admits. “I like to mix it up and I don’t really like the ‘rinse and repeat’ moto — my portfolio makes that pretty clear.” 𝗔𝗿𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝘆 𝗽𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗶𝗰𝘂𝗹𝗮𝗿 𝗿𝗼𝗼𝗺𝘀 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗲𝗻𝗷𝗼𝘆 𝗴𝗲𝘁𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗰𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵? I am currently working on a kids’ bunk room and I’ve enjoyed it so much. Kids’ rooms typically allow you to be a bit more funky and bold with the mix of patterns. But typically, kitchens are where I love to get creative and think outside the box. 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘄𝗼𝘂𝗹𝗱 𝗯𝗲 𝗮 𝗱𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗺 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗷𝗲𝗰𝘁 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘆𝗼𝘂? I’ve always dreamed of designing a boutique hotel, including all aspects of it — a restaurant/bar, lobby, coffee shop, outdoor areas, etc. Someday I hope that dream happens! 𝗧𝗲𝗹𝗹 𝘂𝘀 𝗮𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 “𝗴𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗵𝗶𝘁𝘀” 𝗼𝗳 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗱𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗴𝗻 𝗰𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗲𝗿. Back in 2018, I designed a bar/restaurant in Houston called Electric Feelgood. It’s an ’80s-inspired bar full of color — a total blast from the past. It’s by far my “greatest hit” considering the client allowed me to let loose creatively. It was a huge challenge too. It’s an 11,000 square-foot space and I was involved in every design decision. It certainly pushed me as a designer, from designing a massive Lite Brite that displays the bar’s name to custom sofas and built-in benches — everything you can touch, see, and feel.
